1. What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a biocompatible titanium post that replaces the natural tooth root and is surgically placed into the jawbone in a fixed position.
Once the dental implant has fully integrated with the surrounding bone tissue (a process known as osseointegration), it supports a ceramic crown or bridge, restoring masticatory function to approximately 99% of normal capacity.
Advantages:
1. Prevent jawbone resorption, maintain the natural facial structure.
2. Preservation of adjacent teeth (no reduction required as with traditional bridge work).
3. Long-lasting – over 20 years with proper oral hygiene.
2. Implant Procedure Protocol at AM PROCARE
- Examination and Consultation: Comprehensive medical history assessment, radiographic imaging (X-ray/CBCT) to determine bone volume and quality.
- 3D Treatment Planning: Analyze implant position, length, diameter, and digital surgical simulation
- Surgical Implant Placement: Insert the implant under local anesthesia, and either suture the gum or place of healing abutment.
- Osseointegration Period: Implant-bone integration occurs over 3-6 months, with a temporary prosthesis could be provided during this phase.
- Prosthetic Restoration: Take an impression, fabricate a porcelain crown, and attach both abutment and crown to the implant.
3. Post-Implant Care Guidelines
• Brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, angled at 45° around the implant area.
• Using solf dental floss or a water irrigation to clean interdental cleaning and implant surfaces.
• Avoid excessively hard or sticky foods for a minimum of 4–6 weeks post-surgery
• Refrain from smoking, alcohol consumption, or teeth grinding (consider an occlusal splint if necessary).
• Follow-up schedule:
– 1 week for suture removal (if applicable)
– 3 months to assess osseointegration
– Every 6–12 monthsV• Brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, angled at 45° around the implant area.
